FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A dense blanket of fog is cutting visibility to near 100 yards across parts of northern Colorado early Wednesday morning, creating dangerous driving conditions along major roadways. Motorists should slow down, turn on headlights, and allow extra distance for braking on I-25, U.S. 85, and Highway 14.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. MDT for Fort Collins, Greeley, Sterling, and nearby communities in Weld and Logan Counties. The thickest fog is expected along I-25 from Loveland north to the Wyoming line and along U.S. 85 north of Greeley.
Meteorologists warn that even short stretches of open highway may have sudden drops in visibility. Drivers heading toward early classes, work shifts, or morning deliveries should avoid cruise control and use low-beam headlights. The Colorado Department of Transportation advises delaying non-essential travel until after the advisory expires.
Conditions are expected to improve by late morning as sunshine returns, bringing highs near 65°F under mostly clear skies this afternoon. By Thursday and Friday, dry and mild fall weather will dominate, with light winds and cool evenings — a welcome break before another weak front approaches this weekend.
