Forsyth County, NC – Authorities have charged six people and rescued more than 400 roosters after uncovering what investigators describe as one of the largest cockfighting operations ever discovered in Forsyth County.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Division, deputies were called to a residence in the 7000 block of Baux Mountain Road in Winston-Salem on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, for an animal welfare check. Upon arrival, deputies discovered hundreds of cages filled with roosters, along with cocaine, firearms, and cash.

A search warrant was issued, leading to the recovery of approximately one kilogram of cocaine, multiple weapons, and additional evidence.

Six individuals face charges connected to the operation, including Edward Thomas Marin, Joxin Trinidadvargas, Filogonio Garcia Gonzalez, Mike Allen Lopeznoyola, and Jose Raul Cruzavila, all of Winston-Salem. Charges range from felony cockfighting to drug trafficking and weapon possession by a felon. One juvenile was also charged and is being held at the Alexander Youth Detention Facility.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests may follow. The Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center is currently holding some of the suspects on secured bonds up to $260,000.
