Forsyth County, NC – A North Forsyth High School student has been arrested after deputies reportedly discovered a firearm in his vehicle on campus Monday, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the investigation began after an anonymous tip suggested a gun might be on school grounds. A School Resource Officer (SRO) searched for the suspect vehicle, and a K9 unit alerted on a car the students had exited. Upon searching, deputies said they found a firearm hidden under the passenger seat.
According to the sheriff’s office, 18-year-old Juan Pablo Mendoza of Winston-Salem has been charged with one felony count of Possession of a Weapon on Educational Property, one misdemeanor count of Carrying a Concealed Gun, and three misdemeanor counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.
Mendoza was booked into the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Forsyth County Courtroom 205.
Chief Deputy Henry C. Gray Jr. said the arrest followed coordination between school staff and law enforcement, emphasizing the district’s zero-tolerance stance on campus weapons. “We are committed to ensuring a safe learning environment,” Gray said.
This investigation remains ongoing.
