Winston-Salem, NC – A man has been arrested in connection with a fire that investigators say was intentionally set inside the Forsyth County Courthouse on Tuesday morning.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, investigators used Real Time Intelligence technology to help identify the suspect, Tremyale De’Angelo Harrison, 27, of Winston-Salem. Harrison has been charged with one felony count of burning a public building and one felony count of burning personal property.
Deputies said the fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, in a men’s restroom at the courthouse. Personnel quickly extinguished the flames before major damage occurred. The courthouse was evacuated as a precaution, and one person was transported to a hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
Harrison is being held in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 205.
Officials thanked the Winston-Salem Fire Department and Police Crime Scene Investigators Unit for their assistance. No serious injuries were reported.
Chief Deputy Henry C. Gray Jr. said the department is grateful the incident did not cause further harm: “We are thankful that no one was seriously injured.”
