She was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and is in stable condition.
Deputies entered the residence and discovered a woman, later identified as an off-duty Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy, deceased in an upstairs bedroom. The suspect had fled before deputies arrived but was identified as Eric Sumner, 43, of Suwanee.
Detectives tracked Sumner south on I-75, where Monroe County deputies located and arrested him after a brief chase. He is being held in Monroe County before being transported back to Forsyth County to face charges of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with intent to murder.
