GIBSON CITY, IL – Two law enforcement officers were injured early Saturday after an armed confrontation with a naked man in Gibson City, prompting a countywide search for the suspect.
According to the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5, the shooting happened around 2:31 a.m. Saturday when Gibson City Police Department (GCPD) officers and Ford County Sheriff’s Department (FCSD) deputies responded to reports of a naked man in the 100 block of Ash Street. The man was identified as 70-year-old David D. Jordan of Gibson City.
Authorities said that when officers attempted to make contact with Jordan at his residence, he allegedly opened fire. A GCPD officer and an FCSD deputy were struck and transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Shortly after the shooting, the residence reportedly caught fire.
Jordan fled the scene and remains at large. He was last seen unclothed and may be traveling with a red bicycle. Police repeatedly warn that Jordan is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is urged not to approach and to call 911 immediately. Information can also be reported to GCPD at 217-784-8666.
The Illinois State Police investigation is ongoing. Once complete, findings will be turned over to the Ford County State’s Attorney’s Office. No further details have been released.
