Paxton, IL – Residents in Ford County are being warned not to burn outdoors after officials issued a countywide outdoor burning ban Friday, September 26, due to dangerous fire conditions.

According to the Ford County Emergency Management Agency, all outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice. The order includes the burning of brush, leaves, and yard waste, as well as campfires, bonfires, fire pits, and burn barrels. Officials said the restriction is necessary to reduce the heightened risk of wildfires under current weather conditions.

Exceptions are in place for enclosed gas or charcoal grills, provided they are operated safely and remain attended. Any essential or permitted burning activity must first receive written approval from authorities, according to the notice.

Violations of the ban could result in fines, penalties, or other enforcement measures. “We appreciate the cooperation of all residents and visitors in helping protect lives, property, and natural resources,” the agency said in its statement.

The ban remains in effect until further updates are issued by emergency management officials. Residents with questions may contact the Ford County Emergency Management Agency at 217-379-9415.
