Foot Locker and Finish Line announced today they’ll be closed Monday in order to honor the life of George Floyd. The two stores combine for over 1,500 individual locations in the U.S.

“Our Stores will be closed Monday, June 8th.  We will be honoring the life of George Floyd.  Actions speak louder than words.” Finish Line said in a statement on their website today.

It’s been two weeks since George Floyd died at the hands of police.  Hundreds of mourners lined up outside a church in Houston for a final public viewing Monday.

“As we have listened to many of our team members and customers over the last several days, there is an acute pain and emotional toll that these events have taken on everyone.  In an effort to both pay our respects and celebrate the memories of so many Black lives that have been wrongfully taken from us, as well as aid in the healing of our team members, we will be closing stores across North America.  This will give our team members time to reflect on the recent tragic events, mourn for Black lives lost and begin to heal. Team members will be paid during this time.” Said Foot Locker CEO Richard Johnson today.

The closings effect all 660 Finish Line stores and 1,000 Foot Locker locations in the U.S.
