Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin – A 120 mph interstate pursuit ended in an arrest Monday after deputies stopped a driver allegedly armed with BB guns.
According to Captain Chris Randall of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy observed a vehicle traveling 120 mph at approximately 3:45 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, on Interstate 41 northbound near Lost Arrow Road in the Township of Byron.
Authorities said the driver failed to stop after emergency lights and sirens were activated, exited onto Highway 151, ran a traffic signal, and re-entered I-41 southbound, accelerating to speeds exceeding 130 mph. During the pursuit, communications officers received information that the driver had recently been reported missing from Winnebago County and had allegedly purchased BB or pellet guns while expressing suicidal intentions.
Washington County Sheriff’s deputies deployed Stop Stick tire deflation devices on I-41 near County Trunk Highway D. After two tires were deflated, traffic in both directions was halted to protect motorists as deputies positioned behind the suspect.
Officials said the driver exited holding two black Glock-style BB guns and began firing pellets at squad cars. Deputies recognized the weapons were BB guns but treated the situation as an active threat. After repeated commands to surrender, less-lethal beanbag rounds and a K9 were deployed. The suspect eventually dropped the weapons and was taken into custody. A Taser was also deployed during efforts to secure him.
The man was transported to SSM Health in Fond du Lac for evaluation. No civilians or officers were injured.
The incident caused early-morning traffic disruptions affecting commuters and shift workers traveling I-41.
