Sioux Falls, SD – The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Dense Fog Advisory and a Wind Advisory for portions of northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota, and northeast Nebraska, warning of hazardous driving conditions as fog transitions to strong winds later today.

The Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday, with visibility dropping below one-quarter mile in cities including Sioux City, Le Mars, Vermillion, Cherokee, and Spencer. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra travel time during the morning commute.

Once the fog lifts, a Wind Advisory will take over for much of the day and evening. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected across the region, with the strongest gusts occurring this afternoon and evening. The combination of strong winds and patches of light snow could briefly reduce visibility and create localized whiteout conditions.

The NWS warns that these conditions may blow around unsecured objects, down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles traveling along I-29, I-90, and Highway 20 should use extra caution due to crosswinds.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor decorations, avoid unnecessary travel during the strongest wind gusts, and monitor for updates as conditions evolve.
