Grand Rapids, Mich. – Drivers across western Michigan will face dangerous travel conditions early Friday as dense fog reduces visibility to a quarter mile or less. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory lasting through 10 a.m. Friday, warning of hazardous conditions for morning commuters.
According to the advisory, the heaviest fog will blanket areas from Grand Rapids south through Kalamazoo and east toward Lansing. Motorists are urged to use low-beam headlights, slow down, and allow extra travel time. Officials caution that rapid changes in visibility could make highways like I-96, US-131, and I-196 especially hazardous.
By late Friday morning, skies are expected to clear with temperatures climbing to the upper 70s. Sunshine continues into the weekend, with highs near 79 on Saturday and low 80s by Sunday, creating ideal fall conditions for outdoor activities. Nights will remain cool, with lows in the mid-50s.
The dense fog risk will ease by late morning Friday, but officials stress that updates could follow if conditions linger longer than expected.
