Orlando, FL — Florida’s Atlantic coast is facing high rip current risks and hazardous boating conditions starting today, creating a dangerous setup for beachgoers and boaters alike. Strong onshore winds and waves reaching up to 8 feet offshore are expected to make swimming and boating treacherous through mid-week, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
A small craft advisory remains in effect along the coast from Brevard to Treasure Coast waters, where conditions are likely to deteriorate further. Rough surf with breaking waves between 3 and 5 feet is forecasted nearshore, while offshore seas could build to 7 feet. Swimmers and surfers are urged to stay out of the water, as the risk of life-threatening rip currents is high.
The forecast for Monday includes mostly sunny skies with a 30% chance of showers in the afternoon and high temperatures around 85°F. Winds are expected from the east at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Monday night will be mostly clear with a low around 72°F.
Conditions will remain largely unchanged on Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 85°F, though afternoon showers are possible. Tuesday night brings mostly cloudy conditions with a low of 74°F. By Wednesday, chances of showers increase to 50% as moisture builds across the region, pushing rain potential further into Thursday, where locally heavy rainfall may develop.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and heed weather advisories if venturing out. Local authorities stress the importance of avoiding ocean swimming during this hazardous period and preparing for windy and wet conditions mid-week.
