Tampa, Florida – Sweltering heat and afternoon thunderstorms will collide across Tampa Bay Friday, kicking off a wet and stormy weekend across west-central Florida.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. Friday, with peak heat index values approaching 99°F. Light winds from the southwest will offer little relief. While rainfall amounts may remain light, some storms could bring localized downpours and lightning, particularly in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Drivers along I-275 and U.S. Route 92 should plan for wet pavement and potential ponding during the evening commute. Outdoor workers and residents are urged to stay hydrated and limit sun exposure before storms develop.

By Friday night, showers may continue as temperatures dip into the mid-70s. Saturday brings more of the same, with daytime highs near 92°F and another round of afternoon storms. Expect similar conditions Sunday, although cloud cover may keep highs slightly cooler near 89°F.

The unsettled pattern is expected to continue into Monday, when another round of showers is likely. While no flooding or severe weather is currently forecast, daily rainfall chances remain between 50–60% through early next week.

Five-Day Tampa Area Forecast (June 26–30)
