Tampa, Florida – Sunshine returns to the Tampa Bay area, but the heat is turning serious just in time for the weekend. A prolonged stretch of near-record temperatures and a soaring heat index will make outdoor activities risky Friday through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s high will hit 93°F, but the heat index could feel closer to 98°F. Conditions remain dry with little cloud cover, and light afternoon winds from the west offer little relief. This trend holds through Sunday, with temperatures peaking near 94°F and overnight lows staying in the 70s. Areas along I-275 and surface roads may experience softened asphalt or tire pressure fluctuations due to extended exposure to high heat.

Residents should limit time outdoors from noon to 4 p.m., wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated. Pets and children should never be left in parked vehicles. Weekend UV levels will be extreme — sunburn can occur in as little as 10 minutes without protection.

Tampa’s skies will remain mostly clear through early next week, with Monday expected to reach 95°F before slight cloud cover returns Tuesday night. No rain is in sight through Wednesday, and light winds will persist across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

Five-Day Tampa Outlook:

  • Friday: Sunny, high 93°F, heat index near 98°F
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, high 93°F
  • Sunday: Sunny, high 94°F
  • Monday: Sunny, high 95°F
  • Tuesday: Sunny early, becoming partly cloudy late, high 94°F
