TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa residents could see dangerous heat and strong afternoon storms Saturday, as the region bakes under temperatures reaching 94°F and a heat index climbing as high as 105°F. Afternoon thunderstorms may bring brief heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds, raising concerns for outdoor events and travel.

According to the National Weather Service, storms are most likely between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, with rainfall amounts ranging from a tenth to a quarter inch, though localized areas could see more during downpours. A light southwest breeze will shift north by nightfall, helping to ease conditions slightly, though scattered storms remain possible into the overnight hours.

Sunday brings little relief, with another round of afternoon and evening thunderstorms across Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties. Heat index values will again push near 105°F, creating dangerous conditions for prolonged outdoor activity. Drivers on I-275 and I-4 should be prepared for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during sudden downpours.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor work during peak heat, and keep devices charged in case of power outages caused by lightning. Storm chances remain elevated through Tuesday, with the highest risk for widespread thunderstorms Monday afternoon into Monday night.
