Jacksonville, Fla. – Storms could disrupt weekend plans across North Florida as thunderstorms return Saturday, with rain chances lingering into early October. Drivers and outdoor events may face delays as unstable air fuels showers from Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, storm chances increase sharply after 2 p.m. Saturday, with some cells capable of heavy downpours. A 60 percent chance of showers is expected, and wet roads could slow travel on major routes including I-95 through Duval County.

Friday will bring sunshine early before clouds and scattered storms develop by evening, producing gusty winds and brief lightning near the coast and inland. Outdoor gatherings should prepare for interruptions, especially south of Jacksonville toward St. Johns County.

Saturday night storms will taper, but lingering showers may keep roads slick into Sunday morning. Sunday’s forecast holds a 30 percent chance of rain with slightly lower humidity, making it the most manageable day of the weekend.

As the calendar turns to October next week, temperatures stay warm with highs near 88 Monday and mid-80s Tuesday. While fall officially began this week, North Florida remains locked in late-summer heat. Cooler, drier air does not arrive until later in October.

Residents are urged to monitor updated advisories, avoid flooded intersections, and allow extra travel time during peak storm hours.
