Melbourne, FL – A tropical disturbance in the eastern Atlantic has a high chance of developing into a stronger system this week, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne. Forecasters reported Sunday morning that the system carries a 70% likelihood of formation within the next seven days as it moves west-northwest across the Atlantic.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the disturbance is not currently projected to have immediate impacts on Florida. However, officials stressed that it remains too early to determine what, if any, effects the system could have on East Central Florida.
The update comes as the Atlantic enters the peak of hurricane season, a period when storms typically develop more frequently and more quickly. Forecasters urge both residents and visitors to monitor updates closely, particularly as storm tracks and intensity forecasts can shift with little notice.
“Regardless of development, it’s a good practice to stay informed during this part of the season,” the Melbourne forecast office noted in a statement.
