Orlando, Fla. – Afternoon thunderstorms and triple-digit heat index values will continue across Central Florida through the weekend, keeping outdoor plans and travel at risk each day. Highs in Orlando are expected to top out near 94 degrees, with heat index values climbing to 103 before storms roll in.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, showers and storms will mainly develop after 2 p.m. Friday through Sunday, with storm chances ranging from 60 to 70 percent. Rainfall may be heavy at times, with some storms producing frequent lightning and gusty winds.
The daily storm pattern means cities like Kissimmee, Sanford, and Winter Park could see slowdowns on I-4, while beachgoers along the Space Coast may face sudden lightning delays. Evening clearing is expected most nights, with lows in the upper 70s.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during peak heat, and use caution on roads during downpours. Frequent lightning remains the main hazard for outdoor events and theme park visitors.
The storm cycle is expected to continue into early next week, with Tuesday and Wednesday still showing daily afternoon rain chances.
