Tallahassee, Florida – Much-needed rainfall swept across the Florida Panhandle and south Georgia on Sunday, delivering widespread totals between one-half inch and one inch, with isolated heavier bands topping 3 inches.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, no community missed out entirely as steady rain moved through from Saturday night into Sunday. Observations show Albany received 1.51 inches, Valdosta measured 1.34 inches, and Tallahassee Regional Airport recorded 1.08 inches. Heavier pockets developed in parts of the region, with Apalachicola picking up 1.66 inches and Mayo leading the listed sites with 1.87 inches over four days.
Panama City recorded 0.91 inches, while Dothan, Alabama measured 0.86 inches. Marianna saw lighter totals at 0.54 inches.
The rainfall is considered beneficial, helping to recharge soil moisture and reduce fire danger across portions of the region following a drier stretch. While the rain brought damp roads at times Sunday, no widespread flooding was reported.
Forecasters say additional systems could bring more unsettled weather later this week, but Sunday’s soaking rain provided a welcome boost to lawns, crops and waterways across the tri-state area.
