Jacksonville, Florida – Dangerous heat and humidity will grip Jacksonville and much of Northeast Florida through 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 29th, as the National Weather Service issues a summer weather alert with a heat index peaking near 110° along major corridors such as I-295 and U.S. 1. Residents and travelers should limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday, with an extended Heat Watch lasting through Tuesday evening. Actual air temperatures will soar to 99°, and humidity will push heat indices as high as 111°. Afternoon thunderstorms are likely, especially after 2 p.m., bringing a chance of relief but also the risk of localized flooding and dangerous lightning. The threat extends across Jacksonville, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, and surrounding communities.

The combination of oppressive heat and high humidity is expected to increase the risk of heat-related illness. Emergency officials urge everyone to avoid strenuous activities outdoors during the hottest part of the day, use air-conditioned spaces whenever possible, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles—even for a few minutes. If you work outdoors, take frequent breaks in the shade and drink plenty of water.

The heat will ease slightly as scattered storms move through the area late Tuesday, but sultry, unsettled weather will continue through the week. Wednesday will bring another round of 97° heat with a 30% chance of storms before a wetter and slightly cooler pattern arrives for the weekend.
