ASTOR, Fla. – Moderate flooding continues along the St. Johns River near Astor, where high water remains backed up by lingering tidal influences and recent rainfall. The National Weather Service in Melbourne said a Flood Warning remains in effect until further notice for portions of Volusia and Lake counties, with water levels expected to stay elevated through early next week.
According to the Weather Service, the river stage at Astor measured 3.2 feet as of Saturday evening—well above the 2.3-foot flood stage—and is forecast to hold steady near that level through midweek. Officials said the slow recession is being delayed by tides and onshore winds, which are preventing normal downstream flow.
Flooding continues to affect several low-lying areas, including Wildhog Road, Holiday Road, and Alligator Road, where water remains over pavement. The parking lot at Juno Trail Apartments and portions of Astor Landing Campground and Lake Dexter Boat Ramp are experiencing standing water. Floodwaters have also entered some of the lowest homes near McPherson Lane and canals adjacent to Blue Creek.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise caution around the river, as conditions may change with local tides and wind shifts. Emergency managers recommend keeping valuables and electrical equipment elevated until water levels recede.
According to the National Weather Service, only a slow fall in water level is expected over the next several days, with moderate flooding likely to persist into next week.
