Melbourne, FL – A combination of heavy rain, rough surf, and persistent coastal flooding continues to affect east central Florida through early this week, posing risks to beachgoers and low-lying neighborhoods. The National Weather Service in Melbourne warns that high rip currents and elevated tides could make coastal conditions dangerous through at least Tuesday.

According to the NWS Melbourne office, breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet and strong onshore winds are driving high surf across Brevard and Volusia County beaches, with minor coastal flooding possible near times of high tide. The agency notes that these hazards are expected to persist until further notice, especially in areas near inlets and seawalls where wave action is strongest.

Flooding concerns also extend inland, with the St. Johns River at Astor remaining near flood stage and locally heavy rainfall expected to continue into Monday night. Forecasters say multiple rounds of rain could lead to ponding on roads and minor flash flooding in poor-drainage areas. Wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph may make boating hazardous along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Residents and visitors are urged to stay off jetties, monitor local tide schedules, and avoid driving through flooded streets. Coastal property owners should secure outdoor items and be prepared for brief water rises during high tide cycles.
