ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida faces another round of soaking rain Monday as a Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening for much of east-central Florida, including Orlando, Kissimmee, Daytona Beach, and Melbourne. Forecasters warn that additional heavy showers and thunderstorms could worsen flooding in already saturated areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, repeated rainfall over the weekend has left rivers, creeks, and drainage canals near capacity across Volusia, Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties. Additional downpours Monday may trigger flooding in low-lying neighborhoods, poor-drainage areas, and along roadways such as Interstate 4, U.S. 192, and State Road 528.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management urges residents to avoid driving through flooded streets and to monitor alerts for potential Flood Warnings. Even a few inches of moving water can sweep vehicles off the road. Urban flooding is also possible near the Space Coast, where storms may train along the coast through the afternoon.

Showers are expected to taper late Monday night as the moisture plume shifts eastward. However, standing water and swollen creeks may persist into Tuesday, especially in Brevard and Volusia Counties.

Cooler, drier weather is expected by midweek as a weak front moves in from the Gulf.
