Naples, Florida – Drivers across southwest Florida could face sudden visibility drops to a quarter mile or less during the early Thursday commute, creating hazardous conditions on major roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, areas of fog are developing across interior portions of southwest Florida and may become locally dense through 9 a.m. Thursday. Visibility could fall below 0.25 miles at times, especially in rural and low-lying areas.

The greatest impacts are expected inland from Naples to Immokalee and along stretches of I-75, U.S. 41, and State Road 82, where patchy dense fog may lead to rapid changes in driving conditions. Morning commuters could encounter sudden whiteout-like visibility, particularly near wetlands and agricultural zones.

Officials urge drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles. Avoid using high beams, which can worsen visibility in dense fog.

Conditions should gradually improve after sunrise as temperatures rise and fog dissipates. However, drivers are advised to remain cautious through mid-morning as pockets of dense fog may linger until 9 a.m. Additional advisories could be issued if visibility worsens.
