Indian River County, FL – A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for Coastal Indian River County this Sunday morning as a developing system moves closer to Florida’s east coast.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, winds are expected to reach 15–25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph today, with the potential for tropical-storm-force winds of 39–57 mph as conditions evolve. Forecasters say residents should complete preparations for limited wind damage, including securing lightweight outdoor items and reinforcing vulnerable structures.

Heavy rainfall is also expected. Forecast models indicate an additional 1–3 inches of rain, with higher localized totals possible. The Weather Service warns of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Motorists should use caution near underpasses and bridges, where water could collect quickly.

While storm surge flooding is not anticipated for Indian River County, hazardous surf, beach erosion, and dangerous rip currents are possible along the Treasure Coast. Emergency officials continue to urge residents to follow advisories and remain alert for updates.

The risk of tornadoes with this system remains low. Forecasters note conditions are unfavorable for tornado development, though thunderstorms with gusty winds may occur.

Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and weather updates throughout the day as conditions may change. Preparations should be completed before stronger winds and heavier rain arrive later today.
