Port St. Lucie, FL – Residents along Florida’s Treasure Coast remain under a Tropical Storm Watch today as forecasters warn of gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph are expected across coastal St. Lucie County. The agency cautioned that localized winds could still reach tropical storm strength, with hazardous driving conditions possible on bridges and elevated roadways.
Forecasters said rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are likely, with locally higher amounts in some areas. While widespread flooding is not expected, poor drainage zones and low-lying roads could see temporary closures due to ponding. The risk of storm surge remains low, though residents should be alert for rough surf, dangerous rip currents, and coastal erosion.
The National Weather Service advises residents to finish preparations this morning, securing outdoor items and preparing for possible scattered power outages. Impacts are expected to remain limited, with minor damage to tree limbs, fences, and lightweight structures possible.
At this time, tornado activity is not anticipated, though showers and thunderstorms may produce isolated gusts.
Officials urge residents to monitor updates throughout Sunday and follow guidance from local emergency management.
