Tampa, FL – The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical wave in the eastern Tropical Atlantic that has a medium (60%) chance of developing into a tropical system within the next seven days, according to an update issued Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025.

The system, currently labeled Disturbance 2, is expected to move westward across the central Atlantic through the middle to latter part of next week. At this time, meteorologists say it is too early to determine if the disturbance will have any direct effects on Florida or the U.S. coastline.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay, impacts are not expected at this time in west-central or southwest Florida, but residents are encouraged to monitor the forecast closely in the coming days. The agency emphasized that forecast confidence for tropical systems can change rapidly as conditions evolve.

Tropical waves originating in the eastern Atlantic are common during early October as ocean temperatures remain warm enough to support development. If this disturbance organizes further, it could become a named storm as it moves across open waters.

Residents and visitors across Florida are urged to stay informed through official sources and check for updates from the National Hurricane Center throughout the week.
