Tallahassee, Florida – A developing area of low pressure off Florida’s east coast is expected to slide west across the state and enter the northeastern Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday, bringing an increased threat of tropical development and heavy rain to the region through Thursday.

According to the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service Tallahassee, this disturbance carries a 30% chance of forming into a tropical system within the next seven days, with the most likely window for organization coming mid- to late week. The system’s track will raise rain chances across the Florida Panhandle, Apalachicola Bay, and cities including Tallahassee, Panama City, and Pensacola—regardless of whether it becomes a named storm.

Impacts may include periods of heavy rainfall, localized street flooding, and hazardous driving on major routes like I-10 and US-98. Emergency managers urge residents and visitors to monitor official updates, review emergency supply kits, and avoid flood-prone areas as conditions change. Gulf County, Franklin County, and surrounding inland regions could see the most persistent rainfall, with some showers lingering into Friday. Texas and Louisiana coasts are not expected to see direct impacts at this time.

Tropical weather outlooks will be updated daily, with new advisories possible if the system organizes further.
