Florida — Palm fronds barely move at sunrise, but the air already feels damp and unsettled. Low clouds drift over Central Florida, and the calm won’t last long.

Today starts mild across the Orlando metro, with temperatures rising into the low 70s. A few light showers develop at times, especially late in the day and evening. Roads may turn briefly slick, though widespread travel problems are not expected. Keep umbrellas handy if you’re heading out along I-4 or surface streets near downtown.

According to the National Weather Service, rain chances increase again Wednesday and Wednesday night. Showers remain scattered, but clouds thicken and humidity lingers. Highs still reach the upper 60s, keeping conditions feeling more like early spring than January.

The bigger shift arrives by Thursday. A cold front pushes through Central Florida, clearing skies but dragging much cooler air south. Daytime highs fall into the upper 50s, and winds turn noticeably cooler by afternoon. By Thursday night, temperatures drop into the low to mid-30s around Orlando’s colder suburbs.

That sets the stage for a cold snap rarely felt this winter. Patchy frost becomes possible late Thursday night into early Friday, especially in low-lying and inland areas. Sensitive plants could be damaged, and residents may want to protect outdoor plumbing.

Friday stays sunny but cool, with highs in the mid-50s. Another chilly night follows, keeping frost concerns alive into early Saturday morning. By the weekend, sunshine holds, and temperatures slowly rebound into the 60s.

Plan now for the cooler nights ahead. Bring plants inside, check pets, and prepare for a sharp temperature change after midweek.
