Florida begins the morning wrapped in thick fog as brake lights blur into the gray across Tallahassee streets. Visibility drops suddenly, and familiar landmarks fade fast along early commutes through the capital region.
A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through the morning hours, with visibility reduced to less than a quarter mile in spots. Conditions are most hazardous along Capital Circle, U.S. 27, and stretches of I-10 where fog pools quickly near low ground.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, calm winds and saturated air have allowed fog to thicken before sunrise. The advisory covers much of the Big Bend and Panhandle, where drivers may encounter near whiteout conditions until midmorning.
Temperatures hover in the mid-50s early, adding to the moisture-laden air. Fog is expected to lift gradually as sunshine increases, giving way to a warm afternoon with highs climbing into the upper 70s. Even so, shaded roadways and bridges may stay slick longer.
Fog becomes a repeating theme heading into Sunday. Another round of dense fog is likely before midmorning, followed by bright skies and mild winter warmth. These swings can catch travelers off guard, especially those returning from holiday trips or heading out for end-of-year errands.
By Monday, showers enter the picture during the afternoon, briefly reducing visibility again. Behind that system, cooler and drier air arrives midweek, setting up clearer conditions for New Year’s Eve and the start of 2026.
Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles. Avoid sudden stops, especially in areas where fog thickens without warning.
