Miami, Fla. – Drivers in Miami-Dade should prepare for slick roads and possible flooding as thunderstorms build Thursday afternoon and linger into Friday. With storm chances climbing to 70 percent by Thursday night, travelers along I-95 and neighborhood streets may face delays during peak commute hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a mix of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 2 p.m. Thursday, bringing gusts near 20 mph and brief downpours. Storms may fire again Friday, with widespread showers reducing visibility on highways and threatening localized flooding in low-lying neighborhoods.

Today will stay dry, with sun and a high near 92. That stretch of heat eases Wednesday as moisture increases, producing a 50 percent chance of afternoon showers. Forecasters expect the most intense activity Thursday into Friday, when a stalled front fuels multiple rounds of storms.

Residents are urged to limit non-essential travel during the heaviest rain, keep phones charged in case of power flickers, and check drainage around their homes. Outdoor events Thursday and Friday face disruption, especially during late-day hours.

By the weekend, storm chances stay elevated at 60 to 70 percent, though slightly cooler highs in the mid-80s will bring some relief.

Warnings may be issued later this week if rainfall intensifies or storm coverage expands.
