Tampa, FL – Large portions of west-central and southwest Florida are waking up to thick fog this morning, prompting multiple Dense Fog Advisories from the National Weather Service (NWS). Hazardous visibility is expected through 8–10 a.m. EST, affecting drivers, boaters, and early commuters across the Gulf Coast.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay office, dense fog is impacting Tampa Bay waters, Charlotte Harbor, Pine Island Sound, and coastal waters from Bonita Beach north to the Suwannee River, where visibility may drop below half a nautical mile. Marine officials warn that navigation may be difficult until conditions improve.

A separate land-based Fog Advisory covers a wide stretch of west-central Florida—including Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Hernando, Citrus, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, Sumter, and surrounding inland counties—where visibility may fall to one-quarter mile or less. NWS forecasters say the fog is likely to linger until 10 a.m. EST.

Farther south, the NWS Miami office issued an advisory for Glades, Hendry, and Collier counties, with visibility impacts expected through 8 a.m. EST. Cities affected include Naples, Immokalee, Clewiston, Moore Haven, and Golden Gate.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles. Marine operators are advised to use running lights, radar, and proper fog signals until visibility improves.

More updates will be issued by the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
