TAMPA, Fla. – Drivers across Hillsborough County may face slick conditions this weekend as thunderstorms continue to sweep across Tampa Bay. The National Weather Service warns storms will peak Sunday into Monday, bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning, and heat index values above 100. Motorists on I-275 and I-4 should plan for delays, ponding water, and reduced visibility during the Monday commute.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will dominate Sunday afternoon with storms likely pushing through after 2 p.m. Temperatures will climb to near 91 degrees, but humidity will make it feel closer to 101. Strong downpours could cause brief flooding on low-lying streets, particularly in downtown Tampa, Temple Terrace, and Brandon.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the heaviest rain. Those heading outdoors should stay weather-aware, charge devices in case of power outages, and prepare for quickly changing conditions. Outdoor events may face cancellations or delays across the Bay area.

Looking ahead, isolated storms may linger Tuesday, with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid-70s. The pattern shifts midweek as drier air slides into the region, giving Tampa a brief taste of calmer fall weather before October begins Wednesday.

Rain chances increase again late in the week, keeping roads wet and humidity high. Officials stress that additional advisories could be issued if storm intensity increases.

Five-Day Forecast for Tampa, FL:
