Orlando, Fla. – Central Florida residents will face another stormy week as daily thunderstorms return to the Orlando area beginning Monday, September 8. Strong downpours, gusty winds, and lightning will threaten afternoon and evening travel along the I-4 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are likely Monday with coverage at 80 percent. Storms may bring heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds, with highs reaching near 88. Similar conditions are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with daily storm chances hovering between 60 and 80 percent. Heat index values could push near 100 during the afternoon hours, adding to the risk for outdoor workers and vulnerable residents.

Drivers on I-4, the East-West Expressway, and Florida’s Turnpike should plan for slower commutes as storms flare during peak travel times. Urban flooding could develop quickly in low-lying neighborhoods as repeated heavy downpours saturate the ground. Theme park visitors should also monitor conditions closely, with lightning delays likely during the afternoon and evening.

By Thursday, storm chances may briefly decrease, but NOAA’s precipitation outlook keeps Florida in the “above normal” rainfall zone, meaning the unsettled pattern is far from over.

The National Weather Service urges residents to avoid flooded roadways, prepare for lightning safety, and remain weather-aware throughout the week.
