Orlando, FL – Residents across East Central Florida could see strong thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and evening, with gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain possible across the region.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne says a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather is in place for Orlando, Daytona Beach, Melbourne, Titusville, Vero Beach, and surrounding communities.

Storms are expected to develop Sunday afternoon between about 3 PM and 9 PM as a weather system moves through the state.

Some storms may become strong enough to produce wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph, with a small chance of isolated gusts over 60 mph. Forecasters also say coin-sized hail and frequent lightning are possible with the strongest storms.

Heavy rain could develop in some storms, potentially causing brief localized flooding, especially in poor drainage areas.

Saturday will remain relatively mild with partly to mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers, while temperatures reach the upper 70s along the coast and low 80s inland.

Forecast highs include 80°F in Orlando, 79°F in Melbourne, 77°F in Daytona Beach, 81°F in Leesburg, and 82°F in Port St. Lucie.

Beachgoers should also be aware that a high risk of dangerous rip currents continues along Atlantic beaches, including Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, and the Treasure Coast.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts Sunday as storms move through the region.
