Miami, Florida – Strong thunderstorms are expected across South Florida on Wednesday, with gusty winds, lightning, and localized hail possible by the afternoon—especially in Southwest Florida and areas surrounding Lake Okeechobee.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, scattered storms will develop early along the east coast, impacting cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach through late morning. Storm activity is forecast to intensify and shift westward through the afternoon and evening, with the strongest storms expected near Immokalee, Everglades City, and Naples between 3 and 7 p.m.

Winds may gust over 40 mph in isolated cells, with potential for small hail and intense downpours leading to street flooding. A marginal risk for severe thunderstorms covers much of South Florida, especially inland and southwest areas. Temperatures will remain hot, ranging from 88° in Homestead and Miami to 93° in Everglades City.

Drivers are urged to watch for sudden visibility drops and avoid flooded roadways. Residents in higher-risk zones should secure outdoor items and ensure phones are charged in case of outages.

Thunderstorm chances continue into the evening hours. Additional alerts may be issued if storms reach severe thresholds.
