Orlando, Florida – Dangerous heat and storm activity are set to grip East Central Florida today, with temperatures soaring into the 90s and scattered storms expected to develop west of the I-4 corridor by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, highs will reach 92°F in Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford, with a 50% chance of rain and potential thunderstorms by this evening. Leesburg and Daytona Beach face a higher 60% chance of storms, while areas like Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie, and Stuart remain slightly drier with only a 30% chance.
The combination of oppressive humidity and soaring heat has prompted health officials to advise residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, hydrate regularly, and wear light-colored clothing. Coastal communities should also be on alert: a moderate rip current risk remains in effect along Central Florida beaches, with surf heights reaching 1–2 feet.
Localized flooding in poor drainage areas and brief strong wind gusts are possible during heavier downpours later today. Drivers along I-4 and U.S. 192 should watch for reduced visibility during sudden storms.
Heat and storm risks remain elevated into Monday, with further advisories possible if conditions worsen.
