Tampa, FL – Florida residents should prepare for another round of afternoon showers and thunderstorms today, with the highest chances south of Interstate 4 across interior and southwest Florida.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, partly cloudy skies will give way to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms by late afternoon and evening. Light winds around 5 mph are expected inland, while sea breezes will push winds up to 10 mph along the coast.

Temperatures will climb near 90 degrees along the coast and into the mid-90s inland. With high humidity, heat indices could reach between 100 and 105, creating hazardous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center reports that Tropical Storm Humberto is moving west-northwest across the central Atlantic but poses no significant threat to West Central or Southwest Florida. Meanwhile, Hurricane Gabrielle is moving eastward and also poses no risk to the United States. Meteorologists are also tracking a disturbance near the Bahamas, but no immediate local threat has been identified.

Forecasters urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and monitor for potential thunderstorm developments through the evening.
