Miami, Florida – Strong thunderstorms could rattle parts of South Florida this afternoon as Saharan Dust lingers over the region, potentially delaying storm development until mid to late evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a limited risk for isolated strong to severe storms exists across the western two-thirds of the state’s southern tip. The greatest threat is centered near Lake Okeechobee and inland communities like Immokalee, Clewiston, and areas west of Palm Beach, where gusty winds, small hail, excessive lightning, and localized flooding are possible.

Storm activity is expected to peak between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., especially in regions just inland from the Gulf Coast. While coastal cities like Fort Lauderdale and Miami may avoid the brunt of today’s activity, residents should remain alert as isolated cells could still form.

Drivers in southwest Florida are urged to use caution on roads prone to flooding and avoid travel during the most active storm window. Keep mobile devices charged and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.

Warnings remain in effect through this evening. Additional alerts may be issued if storm conditions worsen late tonight.
