Florida Weather Alert: Severe Storm Risk South of I-4 Through Sunday Morning With Hail and Gusty Winds

Tampa, Florida – Scattered thunderstorms are tracking southward across Florida this morning, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail to communities along and south of I-4.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, a Level 1 severe weather risk is in effect for southwest Florida until mid-afternoon Sunday. Storms that began developing early this morning are expected to gradually shift south, impacting areas from Tampa to Fort Myers with gusty winds, lightning, and pockets of heavy rain.

Cities including Sarasota, Bradenton, and Port Charlotte could see storm cells capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph and hail the size of quarters. Travel may be impacted on I-75 and US-41 during morning and midday hours. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and secure loose outdoor items.

While the severe threat is marginal, isolated strong cells could quickly intensify. Power outages and minor flooding in low-lying areas are possible. The storm threat should exit south of the region by late afternoon.
