Palm Beach County, FL – Beachgoers in South Florida are being urged to use extra caution as a moderate risk of rip currents continues along Palm Beach County beaches Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami.
The agency reports that the rip current threat will not only persist locally but is also expected to expand along the east coast of Florida by midweek as easterly winds increase. Rip currents, which can pull even strong swimmers away from shore, are among the most dangerous hazards at area beaches.
According to the NWS, swimmers are advised to always remain near lifeguards and follow the direction of local patrols and posted warning signs. The risk level may rise in the coming days, making conditions more dangerous for anyone entering the water.
Beach safety officials emphasize that swimming with a buddy and avoiding unguarded areas can help reduce the risks. If caught in a rip current, experts advise swimming parallel to shore rather than attempting to fight against the current.
The rip current risk is expected to remain elevated through much of the week, with the strongest conditions developing by Wednesday as onshore winds increase along Florida’s east coast.
