Daytona Beach, FL – A wetter pattern across east central Florida last week delivered much-needed rainfall, easing drought conditions in cities like Daytona Beach, DeLand, and Melbourne. However, residents should prepare for a return to hot and dry weather over the next several days.

According to the National Weather Service Melbourne office, rainfall between May 6–12 reached more than 3 inches in some locations. Daytona Beach recorded 3.42 inches—2.62 inches above normal—while DeLand and Leesburg saw over 3 inches as well. These totals represent the highest 7-day rainfall in weeks, offering temporary relief from ongoing dryness.

The wet pattern was localized, with the heaviest rain falling just south and east of Interstate 4, where 5 to 8 inches were observed. Despite this, meteorologists caution that the region is not yet in its wet season. Starting midweek, east central Florida is expected to see drier skies and rising temperatures.

Officials advise residents to remain cautious. With dry air returning, fire risk could increase across brush-prone counties like Brevard and Osceola. Locals should avoid outdoor burning, stay hydrated, and monitor updates from emergency management and the National Weather Service.

The brief wet spell may offer hope, but Florida’s dry season isn’t over yet.
