Tampa, FL – Residents in Tampa Bay and across southwest Florida should prepare for a wetter start to the week, as rain chances climb beginning Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS Tampa Bay office reported Sunday that while today will remain mostly sunny and mainly dry, increasing moisture will push daily storm chances higher through the start of the work week. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 80s to lower 90s, with heat indices pushing into the upper 90s and low 100s.
According to the forecast, isolated storms are possible Sunday, with rain chances holding at less than 30%. By Monday and Tuesday, however, scattered to numerous afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected across southern interior and southwest Florida, with rain probabilities increasing to 40–60%.
Humidity levels will also remain elevated, keeping conditions warm and muggy throughout the day and into the evenings. Overnight lows will hover in the mid- to upper 70s across the region.
Forecasters advise that while widespread severe weather is not anticipated, localized downpours and brief gusty winds could affect commuters during peak travel times. Those with outdoor plans, especially in the afternoons, should monitor updated forecasts and be prepared for sudden changes in conditions.
