Orlando, Fla. – Drivers in Central Florida should prepare for dangerous conditions Monday as storms bring heavy rain, lightning, and possible flooding to the I-4 corridor. Travel could be hazardous through the evening, especially during rush hour when downpours may reduce visibility and create slick roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, scattered thunderstorms will develop Monday afternoon with an 80% chance of rain. Storms may intensify by late afternoon, bringing wind gusts near 25 mph and localized flooding on low-lying streets. Lightning remains the greatest risk, especially for outdoor workers and anyone near water.

Orlando, Winter Park, and Kissimmee are most at risk for heavy rainfall during the commute home Monday. Motorists should allow extra travel time, avoid flooded intersections, and use caution on I-4, where pooling water is possible.

Conditions ease overnight, but more storms return Tuesday with a 60% chance of rainfall and highs near 92. Rain coverage decreases slightly midweek, though daily thunderstorm chances continue. Outdoor plans may need adjustments through at least Thursday.

Residents are urged to charge phones, keep vehicles fueled, and monitor local alerts. Afternoon storms remain common this week, but periods of dry weather return by Friday.

Warnings could expand if storms strengthen Monday afternoon. Officials remind Floridians that “turn around, don’t drown” applies when roadways flood.
