Miami, Fla. – South Florida faces dangerous heat and growing storm chances today as a heat advisory stretches across Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Heat index values could reach 108 degrees by Wednesday afternoon, raising the risk of heat illness for anyone outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, the advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and seek air conditioning when possible. Emergency crews warn of possible heat-related medical calls if people ignore the advisory.

Storm chances rise this afternoon and continue through Thursday. Brief but intense downpours could create ponding on roads, especially along Interstate 95 and the Dolphin Expressway during evening commutes. Gusty winds and lightning may also cause temporary power outages.

Looking toward the Labor Day weekend, daily showers and thunderstorms remain likely. Friday through Sunday brings a 60 to 70 percent chance of storms each afternoon, with heavy rainfall possible in localized areas. Outdoor events may face disruptions, especially near Miami Beach and Downtown.

Travelers should plan for slower driving conditions and allow extra time. Those heading outdoors are advised to carry water, wear light clothing, and use shaded areas whenever possible.

The heat threat will ease slightly after sunset, but humidity will keep overnight lows in the low 80s. Relief is unlikely until early next week, when slightly drier air may arrive.
