Jacksonville, Fla. – Strong winds are the main concern for Florida residents this Labor Day as meteorological fall begins. Drivers along I-95 and coastal roads could face hazardous crosswinds through Monday evening, with scattered power outages possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. Monday for coastal Duval, Flagler, and St. Johns counties. Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will batter beaches, neighborhoods, and bridges. Loose outdoor items may become projectiles, while tree limbs could fall onto roadways or power lines. Officials urge residents to secure property and use caution while traveling.

Nationally, the weather story extends skyward. NOAA reports a coronal mass ejection from the sun could ignite Northern Lights as far south as Virginia, Missouri, and Kansas overnight into Tuesday. While Florida skies won’t see the aurora, clear conditions farther north may allow millions to witness a rare glow.

Locally, Jacksonville will see highs near 82 Monday with breezy conditions and scattered storms. Winds ease slightly Tuesday as mostly sunny skies return and temperatures reach the low 80s.

The Wind Advisory ends late Monday, but unsettled conditions and storm chances remain possible through midweek.
