Jacksonville, Fla. – Floodwaters and late-night thunderstorms threaten Jacksonville tonight as a Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Sunday. Dangerous driving conditions could develop quickly, especially along I-95 and low-lying roadways, where ponding and flash flooding are possible.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms will intensify after sunset, producing heavy downpours and frequent lightning. The chance of rain is 80 percent through tonight, with gusty winds reducing visibility for drivers. Local officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel overnight and keep mobile devices charged in case of power outages.

Sunday brings a slight break, but storms remain likely after midday. High temperatures will reach near 88 degrees with humid conditions and scattered thunderstorms into the afternoon. Rainfall could again measure between a quarter and half an inch in parts of Duval and Clay counties.

By Monday, skies trend drier with only isolated storms expected. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs in the lower 90s, though afternoon heat will keep the air sticky. More scattered storms return by midweek, keeping outdoor plans at risk of sudden changes.

Residents heading to area beaches should take caution. A rip current statement remains active through Saturday evening, and rough surf may continue into Sunday. Swimmers are urged to stay near lifeguard stations.

Warnings may be extended if storms redevelop late Sunday or Monday morning.
