Jacksonville, FL – The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Jacksonville and surrounding areas as temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-90s over the next several days. Thursday’s high is projected to reach 95°F, with heat indices potentially rising to dangerous levels between 108°F and 112°F. Residents are urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, the extreme heat is expected to persist through the weekend, with Friday’s high reaching 94°F and Saturday’s high at 93°F. Scattered thunderstorms are forecasted to move into the area starting Saturday, providing some relief from the heat but also bringing the risk of lightning and heavy rainfall.
The heatwave, coupled with the potential for power outages, could make conditions particularly hazardous. Residents are advised to find local cooling centers or stay in the coolest parts of their homes. Simple steps, like wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing and keeping blinds closed, can significantly reduce indoor temperatures.
