Jacksonville, Fla. – Coastal flooding and dangerous rip currents threaten Northeast Florida beaches through early Thursday, creating hazards for drivers and beachgoers. Residents should prepare for delays on coastal routes, especially near low-lying areas and beach access roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday. At the same time, a high rip current risk lingers through tonight, making swimming and boating extremely dangerous. Flooding may impact parking lots, parks, and roads, including stretches of A1A near the shoreline.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid roads with standing water. Barricades are in place for safety—do not drive around them. Beach visitors should swim near lifeguards and avoid venturing into rough surf. Even strong swimmers can be swept offshore in rip currents.

Conditions will improve by Thursday afternoon as skies clear. Highs will reach the mid-80s under mostly sunny skies, offering some relief after several stormy evenings. Winds will ease but could still gust near 20 mph along the coast.

Looking ahead, drier and warmer weather will shape much of the upcoming weekend. Breezy sunshine Friday leads into a slight chance of showers Saturday, with temperatures holding in the low-to-mid 80s. By Sunday and Monday, scattered thunderstorms return, though coverage should remain limited.

With Patriot Day events scheduled Thursday across Jacksonville, organizers and attendees should monitor conditions early in the morning. Coastal hazards should subside in time for late-morning gatherings.
