Tallahassee, FL – Blistering heat and summer storms will collide across North Florida on Wednesday, bringing heat indices up to 105° and scattered thunderstorms to the Tallahassee area by early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, showers and storms are expected to develop after 2 p.m. Wednesday, following a dangerously hot morning with highs near 98°. Winds from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph could briefly shift patterns, but won’t offer much relief. A 60% chance of precipitation continues into the evening with thunder possible after midnight.

Residents along I-10, U.S. 319, and Capital Circle should anticipate wet pavement, reduced visibility, and possible power interruptions. Afternoon travel delays are possible as storm bands strengthen during the commute window. If you’re driving or working outdoors, stay hydrated and avoid peak heat hours from noon to 4 p.m. Tallahassee Emergency Management urges people to check on elderly neighbors and limit energy use during peak hours.

Storm chances increase again Thursday and Friday, continuing a stormy trend through the weekend. Evening downpours and rumbling skies may lead to minor flooding in low-lying areas or saturated roadways.
